There are several Big Dig events in our area, including helping out Bradford Community Environment Project at Scotchman Road Allotments on Monday 18 March and at Wibsey Park Community Garden on Tuesday 19 March, then there’s Roots and Fruits at the Rockwell Centre, Thorpe Edge on Thursday 21 March and Horton Community Farm, Cecil Ave on Saturday 23 March. For full details see www.bigdig.org.uk/bradford/
BCEP is working with Hive on their new natural dyes project (you may have seen some recent T&A articles), and although there is Heritage Lottery funding for the basic project, we’d like to spread it further and encourage others to set up dye gardens – so we would love donations of any spare plants of the following:
- Hypericum perferatum (St John’s wort)
- Galium verum (ladies bedstraw)
- Reseda luteola (weld)
- Lythrum salicaria (purple loosestrife)
- Genista tinctoria (Dyers greenweed)
- bronze fennel
- Rubia tinctorum (madder)
- Humulus lupulus (hop)
They don’t necessarily need potting up, just put them in a carrier bag or similar!
I or a colleague can collect if local, though it’s harder if it’s a long way!
Gardener’s Question time is coming to Bradford. The panel will be answering questions at the Carlisle Business Centre on the 7th of December. There are still a few tickets left if you would like to be part of the audience but they are going fast, so you’ll have to be quick.
See the bcep website for details.
