Caroline Street Social Club
12- 3pm, Sat 26th November
Please join us for the West Yorkshire Organic Group Annual General Meeting.
As well as all the usual business of the group such as officers reports, elections to posts etc, it’s a great chance to meet up with other members, find out what we’ve been up to for the last year and find out what we’re going to be up to in the coming year, or even suggest something yourself. The bar will be open and there will be a small buffet lunch.

Marion Pencavel as Chair said that because of more publicity and the new website WYOG’s profile has risen, e.g. a Yorkshire magazine made contact for information for an article. The web site is receiving 85 regular visitors and an average of 5 hits a day. E-mailings now go out via the website; there’s now a ‘Classified Ads’ facility; and there’s plenty of room for more links, articles and ideas from everybody to further the organic message.
The Show was a great success seeing more entries and more visitors than ever, with Val’s catering a victim of its own success. It was very sad that Jack First did not make it as his van broke down – he’s been at almost every show since it’s inception and was carrying 32 children’s entries. The tastings were very successful at engaging the public. The Keighley News gave it had good follow up coverage.
Potato Day – very successful, with the potatoes sourced direct from local growers. The surplus was stored and sold later along with a late donation of extra tubers from Alan Roman. Extra sales were made via new contacts with schools.
Other events & initiatives – WYOG’s contribution to the Yorkshire Agricultural Society schools event was successful and will be repeated next year. The Bradford Food Plan progresses slowly
Suggested visits for 2011 are John Brooks’s farm, the Ryedale Vineyard, and the Swillington project. Any takers/other ideas?
A New Year meal is planned – see separate note
Potato Day will be on the 19th Feb. 2011 in Saltaire; same time same place, and Alan Romans will be there with his seeds
The Show will be staged as before to coincide with the Saltaire Festival, but the Festival dates have yet to be confirmed (possibly the 17th Sept. 2011).
The Plant sale will return to the scene on Sat. May 21st 2011, at either Bingley Market or Shipley’s indoor market.
The Yorkshire Show Schools Days will be held the 14 & 15th June 2011.
An alternative Open Garden scheme is planned by Transition Keighley for 2012 and they’d like to hear from anyone in the Keighley area (contact Marion) who’d be willing to explain their ‘real’ (veg + flowers) garden to the public.
We gathered together at Fanny’s Ale House for the meeting today.
Everyone joined in the discussions and the excellent buffet lunch.
I will write up the details when I have got my notes together.
